Introducing Home Education NZ

The purpose of H.E.N.Z. Homeschooling Service is to assist those who wish to use A.C.E. Curriculum subjects and to allow them to purchase materials at discount.

Outline of Basic Structure, Costs and Function

1. Those wishing to register with H.E.N.Z. Homeschool Service need to gain a homeschooling exemption from the Ministry of Education. Information about how to gain this can be supplied by H.E.N.Z..
2. There will be an initial registration fee of $140 per family.
3. Parents will be required to complete three orientation training PACEs before their children start on their PACEs (student work books).
4. Diagnostic Tests will be required for each student unless students are already working on A.C.E. PACEs. These can be administered by parents in the home.
5. Diagnostic tests are marked by H.E.N.Z. and a prescription made to meet the individual needs of each student.
6. A copy of this prescription (order of PACEs) will be sent to parents along with the cost of that order. Before parents send this order to Australia they are free to query any aspect of the order and discuss it with H.E.N.Z..
7. When various requirements are met i.e. training completed etc. H.E.N.Z. will send all relevant information to Southern Cross Educational Enterprises (S.C.E.E.) Australia, the suppliers of the A.C.E. curriculum for the South Pacific, to establish an account allowing parents to purchase at the discounted homeschool price. This would normally be done at the same time as H.E.N.Z. sends the initial order to parents.
8. All future orders will be made by parents and sent directly to S.C.E.E. Australia accompanied by payment in Australian dollars for that order.
9. The cost of PACEs and Score Keys will be $A4.60. Freight needs to be added to this price and it is important to take into account the exchange rate.
10. One set of diagnostic tests is needed for each student. The cost of these will be either:
1. $7.50 for online diagnostic tests (only for students who can read). Maths still needs to be the printed version.
2. $30 for a set of the printed diagnostic tests.
11. H.E.N.Z. will keep an academic record of each student. This will require parents to send all completed PACE tests into H.E.N.Z. once a month.
12. Progress reports will be sent to parents quarterly. Newsletters and other helpful material will also be sent as needed.
13. Information related to correct procedures, set up arrangements, along with a more detailed explanation of the various points outlined in this sheet are available. These are all covered by the Registration Fee.
14. All A.C.E. materials, including educational computer software can be ordered directly from S.C.E.E. Australia.
15. Parents with children who need to learn to read will need to enrol their child on one of the two A.C.E. Learning to Read Programmes. There will be extra costs for the manuals and equipment needed for this. The cost and further details about these programmes are available from H.E.N.Z.. The following is a rough guide as to which of the 2 Reading systems Programmes would be suitable for your child.

    4½ - 5½ years	Preschool with Ace and Christi
    5½ - 6½ years	ABCs Learning to Read

    
    A Reading Readiness Test will confirm which one. 7, 8 and even 9 year olds with reading problems would benefit from going through the ABCs Learning to Read Programme. A special Homeschool Kit for the ABCs is now available and can be purchased for $395 Australian + freight from Australia. The Preschool with Ace and Christi Programme (Reading Readiness) needs to be purchased directly from Australia. Customs GST must be paid for every purchase over $399 New Zealand including freight.

16. Those registered with H.E.N.Z. Full Homeschool Service will receive the following services/privileges:
    • assistance to gain a Certificate of Exemption from the MOE.
    • assistance with academic projections
    • training in A.C.E. procedures
    • access to the A.C.E. Secondary qualifications certificates
    • attendance at A.C.E. Educators' Conventions
    • attendance at A.C.E. Student Conventions
    • receive an A.C.E. Products Catalogue
    • receive newsletters with helpful advice
    • receive an A.C.E. Curriculum Scope and Sequence.

Affiliation Fees

There will be a six-monthly family affiliation fee of $160, the first of these due within one month of initial registration. The annual family affiliation fee is $320.
